How to Make Waffles Without a Waffle Iron

Pretty much everyone in the world loves waffles and I am no exception. My problem with them however lies in the fact that it can be difficult to find waffles that don't contain milk or eggs and the frozen ones just aren't that great. Yes waffle irons exist but I have a hard time wanting to bring cooking appliances into my home that can't be taken apart and washed. I'm sure there are waffle irons that can be disassembled (there are), but I also have a hard time wanting to occupy my limited cabinet space with single use items and the list literally goes on and on. For these reasons I was forced to figure out a way to make waffles without the hassle.

The recipe I'm going to be sharing with you today is just as simple to make as making pancakes, almost as quick, and twice as good! I don't know about you but I've never really been a pancake fanatic. I'll eat them of course but if there is a choice between pancakes and waffles then you can bet I'm getting waffles. Now on to the recipe!

        Here's What You'll Need:

     Instructions:

        1. Add your dry ingredients into your mixing bowl and wisk them together until well combined.

2. Next, add in your milk, melted butter or coconut oil and vanilla extract and mix until smooth and completely mixed.

3. Over medium-low heat melt some of your extra butter or oil and coat the ENTIRE base of your Pan to prevent your waffles from sticking
(Sticking may cause your waffle to burn or tear)

4. Pour the batter into the pan and spread it evenly across the pans surface.

My pan happens to have very shallow grooves so I filled mine about 1/4 of the way up but in case your pan is a deeper I suggest filling it just above the highest point of the grooves and cooking it on a slightly lower temperature for more time to ensure that it is thoroughly cooked.

5. When your waffle is ready to flip lift one of its edges using your fork then carefully run your metal spatula underneath it making sure to release it from each of the grooves in your pan, then flip and cook until it its cooked all the way through and crispy on both sides

6. Repeat these steps until you've got yourself a nice stack of waffles

You can definitely serve them whole but I prefer to cut them up into four equal slices and stack them up. There really isn't anything more satisfying then a beautiful stack of waffles in the morning.

Now it's time to get creative, you can dress them up however you'd like. You can even set up a waffle bar so that each member of your family can create their own custom waffle combos. Go Crazy!

I love to have them the traditional way with (vegan) butter and syrup, but....

CHOCOLATE!!!!!! I like to mix things up every once in a while by spreading dark chocolate between each layer then taking frozen berries and heating them up in a mug until they are completely warm and then pouring them over the top.

World Market sells this amazingly delicious and accidentally vegan dark chocolate spread that is to live for, in fact it's so good that I think that adding this to my diet will add a few years to my life ;)

And that's it! I hope you can try out this recipe. I can't be the only person in the world with hang ups about waffle makers. If you know anyone who also struggles with Over-thinking-buying-a-waffleiron-itis then please share this with them because you love them and waffles=love.

If you do try out this recipe make sure to post a photo of your delicious creation and don't forget to tag me @by_denine on instagram or @bydenine on twitter. Need a grill pan? You can find it here.

Until Next Time!

P.S. Here's another picture of the waffle covered in dark chocolate spread and mixed berries. You're welcome.
